Embark on a sacred journey to the five holy temples of Lord Shiva in the Garhwal Himalayas
The Panch Kedar refers to five sacred temples of Lord Shiva located in the Garhwal region of Uttarakhand. According to Hindu mythology, these temples were built by the Pandavas to seek forgiveness from Lord Shiva after the Kurukshetra war. Each temple represents a different part of Lord Shiva's body.
After the Kurukshetra war, the Pandavas sought Lord Shiva's blessings to absolve themselves of the sin of killing their own kinsmen. Lord Shiva, not wanting to meet them, took the form of a bull and hid in the Himalayas. When the Pandavas found him, he disappeared, leaving behind different parts of his body at five different locations.
Each temple is situated at a significant altitude in the Garhwal Himalayas, ranging from 2,200m to 3,680m above sea level. The temples are: Kedarnath (hump), Tungnath (arms), Rudranath (face), Madhyamaheshwar (navel), and Kalpeshwar (hair).
